J. K. Rowling Writes

"There are celebrities -- and then there are celebrities." The opening line of Rita Skeeter's latest Daily Prophet article gets it absolutely right, for those of us who love Harry Potter know that the infamous wizard is one of the latter. And who could be more excited to see him make an appearance at the Quidditch World Cup?

What am I talking about do you ask? For those of you living under a rock, the above is a little snippet from J. K. Rowling's latest excerpt posted on her Pottermore website. I will admit that I am weary of Harry Potter sequels. When you write perfection, leave well enough alone (ahem, Star Wars, ahem). But I love that Rowling has created a vehicle through which we can catch small glimpses of our favorite characters in their later years. And now, seven years after the release of the Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Harry and the gang have been spotted at the World Cup with their families.

Crowds of wizards flocked like muggles to the internet, hoping to sneak a peek at their favorite lightning-scarred hero. Chronicled by the animagus journalist we all love to hate, we spot The Chosen One introducing his young sons to world famous Quidditch seeker, Viktor Krum. Ron and Hermione, still happily married (whew, Rowling scared me a bit back in February when she cast doubts on their marital fate) and making a name for themselves in the wizarding world, are among just a few of the other former Dumbledore's Army ringleaders that share the Potters' VIP section.

So if you'd like to catch you own glimpse of the grown-up DA, want to vote for your favorite team to win the Quidditch World Cup, get sorted into one of the Hogwarts houses, or just miss the sharp-tongued Rita Skeeter, check out the Pottermore website!

  1. I feel sad for J. K. Rowling. I think her great success lead her publishers to ignore the essential advice they should have been giving her about her writing career. She should have had another series beginning--- ideally a fantasy series--- well before the last volume of HP came out.
I'd probably like to read the story, but better yet, I'd like to see Rowling starting up a new fantasy series--- perhaps one in the HP universe--- and get her career going the way it would have been if massive success had not gotten in the way.

    1. I actually don't want her to spend any more time in the HP universe. Apart from the movies she's working on, which I think it the only good way to do it without stepping on the toes of what she's already done. I'd love an all new children's series though! Something fresh with the same J.K. Rowling creativity.

  2. Big Harry Potter week with the new section opening at Universal Studios as well.
I think she ended it where she wanted and if she goes any further, it's on her terms. I know the feeling. Three books in the Cassa universe was enough. The short story in HEROES was on my terms.

  3. I have to agree. Once you've written a totally awesome series and everyone loved it, move on to something new. I think JK is a fabulous writer and I hope she'll write another magical book or two, but I also hope it's something completely different.

  4. I'm going to be selfish. I want a Marauder prequel, the Encyclopedia, a new series with Albus Severus, and more adult Harry!

  6. Hmmm this sounds intriguing actually. If she writes another Harry Potter book I hope it will be the same calibre as her first series. We often get scared when our favourite author decides to write again about their characters and it turns out to ...suck. I think she will do well no matter what since she has such a talent
