Good morning A to Z-ers. I want to start off by apologizing to everyone who commented on my blog the past three days that I haven't gotten back to yet. I was in the LAND OF NO INTERNET (I seriously didn't know that still existed today) for a few days and fell way behind, but I'm going to do my best to play catch-up today! I can't wait to stop by and check out all your posts I missed.
As for today's post, let me preface this by saying this A to Z Movie Smackdown is going to be a bit of a tearjerker. It's been several months since the death of Robin Williams, but my heart still hurts a little to think of a beloved childhood idol passing away before his time. His movies made me laugh, took me on adventures, and taught me some important life lessons.

His body of work is simply spectacular, and I could have easily listed twenty films here for you to choose from. Instead I decided to pick my favorites -- the movies I watched so often as a little girl I still have them memorized. Sorry for the extra selection, but narrowing it down to three was the best I could do. So VOTE for your favorite Robin Williams film and never forget the joy he brought to the big screen.

This is a hard one indeed. I love all his movies, the ones shortlisted inclusive. If I had to choose one, I'll go for Mrs. Doubtfire I guess. From the alternative pairing, I'd chose Aladdin; it is still one of my favorite movies from the Disney renaissance.
ReplyDeleteI have to go with Hook - I love that movie. Robin Williams was such a great actor and brought such love and joy to so many. My fav film of his ever, is actually Bicentennial man - I cry through it, a lot!

ReplyDeleteFINALLY!! Movies I've actually seen!!! I'm casting my vote for Mrs. Doubtfire, with a special shout-out to two of his less-famous movies, which you didn't nominate but in which I thought he was brilliant: GOOD MORNING VIETNAM and MOSCOW ON THE HUDSON.

I loved Hook, but the whole story premise for Jumangi is my FAVORITE!! Love the mix of supernatural, the past, the present, the game that is forever in control!!
ReplyDeleteYikes! I can't pick! My childhood favourite is Mrs. Doubtfire but watching Jumangi with my kids was another entirely different kind of favourite.... :-)
ReplyDeleteI don't know if I need to choose one of the offered choices. I loved Robin Williams. He was a great man and humanitarian. I liked Patch Adams best of his movies. But reviewing a list of movies he was in, I see there are many I have not seen yet like Angriest Man in Brooklyn and Boulevard. I also liked him in Dead Poet Society and Jumangi and one of his dark side movies, Insomnia.

I loved the World According to Garp. I had read the book first and thought the film was wonderful. But there will always be a corner in my heart for Mrs Doubtfire!
ReplyDeleteI know it's not a movie, but I'm old enough to remember him in the Mork and Mindy TV show. I fell in love with him then and have continued to be amazed at his talent all these years since. Recently saw the last Night at the Museum movie which came out after his death...seemed extra special because of that, somehow.

ReplyDeleteOf these movies, I definitely vote for Mrs. Doubtfire. I also loved him as Patch Adams. He was a great, shining talent.
Jumanji and Alladin.
ReplyDeleteLoved him on inside the actor's studio. He created 52 characters and then did a whole vinnette when he won the Oscar that is hilarious.
I'd go with Mrs. Doubtfire, if only because it's the one I grew up with when I was little. These days I know how ridiculous the premise is, but boy did I love it at the time. I think Robin Williams had that effect on everyone.

ReplyDeleteOh these are all great but I go with Mrs. Doubtfire. I think he just excelled in that film and kept the comedy reigned in but still delivered. I love The Fisher King and What Dreams May Come-not comedies but still brilliant
