Let me start by saying, this A to Z Movie Smackdown is going to be a free-for-all. The best of the best to the worst of the worst. Because "N" is for Nicholas Cage, and the man is a legacy unto himself. I mean what . . . strange and fascinating choices of film roles he's made over the years. Movies we respect, movies we, ahem, make drinking games out of.
And while I've done my best each day to restrain myself to just two movies (and the occasional Alternate Pairing), today I simply could NOT narrow it down. I wouldn't even know where to start.
So for today's Smackdown, feel free to VOTE for whichever Nicholas Cage movie you just can't live without. Whether it's because it's a genuinely great film, or a movie you just love to hate, vote away. And feel free to add any of your own favorite Nick Cage movies not featured below to the list. There are just soooo many good ones.

I don't know about best, but his worst film (and new low point of his entire acting career) has got to be last year's Left Behind.

I can see us arriving at the movies together and going to see different films. I think I've seen a few of the above films, but have no recollection of them. I'll vote for 'Eleni'. Oh no, wait, that was written by Nicholas Gage, not Cage.

ReplyDeleteMy vote goes to The Sorcerer's Apprentice, with an honorable mention to 2012, the most Nicholas Cage movie to not have Nicholas Cage in it.

Yikes, the only one pictured above that I've seen (and therefore, is my favorite!) is The Rock. He was great in that, so it's a solid pick, even though I realize now that I'm seriously behind on the Nicholas Cage bandwagon! Great choice for "N", though!

I love Nicholas Cage. He's such a great actor. Choosing is hard, but I think he was awesome in Face Off.

ReplyDeleteI had no idea I was so lacking in my Nicholas Cage movie familiarity. I did see Sorcerer's Apprentice with my family, though, and we really enjoyed it!

ReplyDeleteHaven't seen them all, and he's one of my favorite's but think of those you listed I would vote The Rock, but really Sean Connery is who first comes to mind when I think of the movie, not Cage.

I liked "Joe". "Joe" is a white trash version of Eastwood's "Gran Torino". Cage was at his best as a middle aged alcoholic trying to save everybody but unable to save himself.

Yes i too lik Nicolas Cage but have seen only few of his movies. Face Off is one of them.

ReplyDeleteCon Air is probably my first and The Rock my second. I mean Sean Connery and all. Then National Treasure which really enhanced our visits to DC.
ReplyDeleteNational Treasure is fun and it has Helen Mirren in the 2nd film. Face Off is another good one. I love Raising Arizona.

ReplyDeleteI'll go for National Treasure. It's the one I remember clearly. I still love his Moonstruck though. He's at his best when he's a mellow character. Something in his eyes.

ReplyDeleteHe can definitely be up and down with his movies. I love The Rock, Con Air, and Gone in 60 Seconds. He was good in the first Ghost Rider, but I hated him in the second. Couldn't even get into Drive Angry at all. His overacting is either perfect or irritating and you never know which it's going to be.

Nicholas Cage is right up there with Tom Cruise. If I see either name associated with a movie, I quickly pass it by. I know a lot of people like him, but there's something about Cage that I just cannot tolerate. Sorry all you fans :/
