Now, back to my A to Z Movie Smackdown. For today's post, I'm going to highlight a few of my favorite oldies. Private eyes, femme fatale, and the ever amazing Humphrey Bogart -- they've got it all! So take a minute to VOTE for your favorite . . .
F is for Film Noir:

This post is part of the 2015 Blogging from A to Z Challenge. My theme (in case you didn't already guess it) is Movie Smackdowns. Cast your vote NOW! Stay tuned for the rest of the alphabet, and if you'd like to check out the other A to Z participants, simply click here.
I don't believe I've seen either of those two movies. Or maybe I was simply too young to remember. Anyway, since you picked them, they must be awesome, so I'll be sure to check them out someday.
ReplyDeleteP.S: Congratulations, Alex!
Was this F for Film or a blatent add for Cavanoughts book none of which I migh add I have ever read, can't remember seeing the films either though at least I have heard of them

I guess you could say this is F for Fellowship. The real goal of this A to Z Challenge is about making connections with other bloggers. Alex J. Cavanaugh, who happens to be one of the hosts and driving forces behind A to Z, is a blogger I connected with three years ago during this very challenge, who has offered encouragement and support ever since. So it seems only fitting that on this special day for him, I would offer that same encouragement and support back.
DeleteTHAT is what this challenge offers you, if you care to seek it out. If not, I thank you for commenting on my F post.
Congrats to Alex! The Maltese Falcon and The Big Sleep are both classics! Boogie and Bacall had such great chemistry together!
ReplyDeleteJulie
Gah, my list of classics I've seen is sorely lacking so I've missed both of these.
ReplyDeleteCongrats to Alex! He'll be everywhere today.
I only vaguely remember seeing these films, but I will go for The Maltese Falcon because it strikes more of a recollection than the Big Sleep :)

It's been ages since I've seen either of these films so I have to go with a draw.
ReplyDeleteHands down the Maltese Falcon :) Returning the visit.
ReplyDeleteMaltese Falcon!
ReplyDeleteThanks again, Lauren.
I don't think I've ever seen either of these movies all the way through, so I'm going to pick The Maltese Falcon, simply because I actually know bits of it :)

First up, I wanted to let you know that your anchored links for Alex's book aren't working properly. I'm not sure which Bogart film I like the best. I've seen both, but it's been too long ago to say for sure which is the better. So, I watched trailers of both on YouTube. I think The Big Sleep gets my vote, but I won't be disappointed if Maltese Falcon wins. :D Thanks for hosting the A2Z fun!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the heads up. Not sure why they didn't work, but I think I've got all the right addresses posted now! Thanks so much for the help!
DeleteThey don't make 'em like they used to, do they?!
ReplyDeleteI love classic films, you hit it right with the ones you shared... Great Post... Mini Alex is playing one of his games!

There's no earthly way of knowing.
Which direction we are going!
HOLLYWOOD NUTS!
Come Visit: You know you want to know if me or Hollywood... is Nuts?
Hmmm I haven't seen either of those movies, but I'll go with The Big Sleep. Because who doesn't love Bacall and Bogart together???!!!
ReplyDeleteBogart & Bacall--hands down!
ReplyDeleteMini Alex is leaning against a door with an awesome game. ;)
ReplyDeleteI haven't seen either of these movies, so I can't vote. :(
Yay for Alex's new book! Can't wait to read it.
ReplyDeleteI haven't seen either of those movies, but I think my dad really liked the Maltese Falcon.
Congrats to Alex and so glad you are supporting him! These are 2 great movies and it is hard to choose but I will so I choose the "Big Sleep". It seems to be the pinnacle of his film noirs to me. It is the 2nd outing with his wife Lauren Bacall and even if the plot is almost impossible to follow the dialogue is rich
ReplyDeleteI'm on the hunt SL ~ more like a mission to visit all the hunt sites! He's in the game section of the bookstore I'm guessing he's moving through as he work's Alex's book launch party!
ReplyDeleteBowing out on this vote. I haven't seen either.
ReplyDeleteLooks like Mini-Alex is in the mood for a little game!
ReplyDeleteMini-Alex is now going to play a board game? Okay. Sadly, I haven't seen the two movies in your smackdown today. I'll try again another day.
ReplyDeleteI guess I should take a guess on where Mini-Alex is myself. This one is no challenge though. Mini-Alex is hanging out with the awesome Firefly cast playing the awesome Firefly game!
ReplyDeleteI'm not a fiction writer, but I am familiar with how supportive your community is.
ReplyDeleteI vote "Maltese Falcon" all day long.
~Visiting from AtoZ
Yay for Alex again. And yay for film noir. I love to watch Bogart on the screen and often go to festivals that feature the noir.
ReplyDeleteI saw the Maltese Falcon quite recently on TV. Not seen the other one though.
ReplyDeleteNo idea where Mini Alex is here other than about to play games when he finishes playing his guitar.
Bogey and Bacall any day of the week - and huge congrats to Mini-Alex for handling all the pressure today :)
ReplyDeleteI've never seen either movie I'm afraid.
ReplyDeleteMini-Alex looks ready to play a game.
Congrats to Alex. I don't have a vote today because I've never seen these films. Not a Bogey and Bacall fan at all.
ReplyDeleteCongrats Alex, seeing a lot of him on the ole challenge today!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE Bogey and Bacall together. But Maltese Falcon all the way.

Maltese Falcon should be required viewing.
ReplyDeleteBogart films are epic!
ReplyDeleteSince a vaugely remember Big Sleep, my vote goes to Maltese Falcon. Looks like Mini-Alex found a secret stack of TV classic board games. Wonder what's behind the door? That is a door, right?
ReplyDeleteCongrats to Alex on the book release! Abstaining from voting today; I haven't seen either of these movies (but must soon)
ReplyDeletebetty
Big fan of Casablanca!
ReplyDeleteMini Alex is in the closet, looking for some games to play. Maybe he could find Battleship.
Maltese Falcon!
ReplyDeleteAnd, Congrats to Alex! I think Mini-Alex is hanging out around the house - playing video games.
I see Firefly in there!
ReplyDeleteI haven't seen these, but I love film noir. So many great films to see!
ReplyDeleteI vote for The Big Sheet - great movie with two great movie stars! Huge congratulations to Alex and his book Dragon of the Stars! What an accomplishment!
ReplyDeleteOh how I love the Maltese Falcon... I am also a Cain Mutiny fan! I am going to go check out the book! I love it when I get to read authors from blogs etc. It sounds like a pretty cool book!
ReplyDeletethanks for visiting me on E. I love Maltese Falcon - the stuff that dreams are made of.........great blog theme.
ReplyDeleteI'm not really a film noir person. My favorite older films are Marx Brothers or Danny Kaye. Or Gone with the Wind. Actually haven't seen either of these movies. Thanks for stopping by my post earlier!
ReplyDeleteI love film noir, but then again I remember when we got our first color TV in the 60s.... great choices especially Maltese Falcon
ReplyDeleteMini Alex is in the game to win..
ReplyDeleteMini Alex is climbing a mountain of awesome.
ReplyDeleteCongrats again to Alex!!!
Mini-Alex has great taste in board games! Leave it to him to raid the game closet.
ReplyDeleteI haven't seen either of the movies- but goof to learn about them. :) Mini Alex is either in a closet or in a game room. :)
ReplyDelete~Jess
Fabulous for Alex!!!! Not seen either movie, very film noirish..know of them but not seen.
ReplyDeleteMaltese Falcon...classic. Love this genre. A more modern film noir I enjoy is CHINATOWN with Jack Nicholson. It's maybe no surprise I ended up writing a story with a detective in it :)

ReplyDeleteMini Alex looks all set to play a board game based on one of the best (but sadly short-lived) television series of all time (and I'm not exactly a Sci-Fi fan). Or perhaps he's taking a ride on Serenity!
ReplyDeleteI have not seen either of the Film Noir choices (shame on me) here so I guess I have to abstain from this one!
Brandy from Brandy's Bustlings
Congratulations to Alex on publishing a new book.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on Alex's book release. I love Firefly and did not know there was a GAME! Yeah time to go find that. Unless mini Alex wants to play me for it!
ReplyDeletePerhaps Mini Alex is going to learn some tricks from the Firefly crew while playing the game. He might learn something from the film noir, as well.
ReplyDeleteI love Humphrey Bogart movies. I'm not sure I could pick between them.
ReplyDeleteMini-Alex is about to play a game. Firefly was a great show.
Maltese Falcon! Our wedding was a bit film noir and we make a chocolate Maltese falcon. Bought a replica online, learned how to make a mould, learned how to temper chocolate... To be honest it wasn't worth the work. :P
ReplyDeleteI love old movies. Now, I want to watch a Humphrey Bogart one. Thanks for posting!
ReplyDeleteStanding tall on a great movie! I'm sure he's on the soundtrack!
ReplyDeleteI haven't seen either movie, so I'm not qualified to vote. As for Mini-Alex, he's definitely ready to play a game. Thanks for helping Alex on his big day. He's the best. Have a great night. Eva
